IAEA Director General Meets with Iranian Foreign Minister: Cooperation between the Agency and Tehran is Essential
After meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, emphasized that cooperation with the Agency is vital to providing credible assurances about the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-Tehran: Rafael Grossi, who traveled to Tehran at the head of a technical delegation, was welcomed by Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on Wednesday evening. After this meeting, Grossi wrote on the social network “X”:

“During my timely visit to Iran, meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister was very important. Cooperation with the Agency is essential to providing credible assurances about the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program at a time when diplomacy is urgently needed.”

During this two-day visit, the IAEA Director General will also meet and hold talks with Mohammad Eslami, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.

The Agency’s Position and the Talks Between Iran and the US
Before his trip to Tehran, in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, Grossi expressed his interest in the involvement of the International Atomic Energy Agency in the talks between Iran and the US in Oman. In response to a question about the upcoming talks between the two countries, he noted: “We are not a member of these talks. But we are not indifferent to them either. They (Iran and the US) know that without us, any agreement with Iran is just a piece of paper, because the Agency must verify any agreement.”

Grossi also added: “For this reason, we have begun our informal interaction with the parties. But as soon as there is a text with concrete content, we will be asked to express our opinion on the steps and the extent of the reviews carried out.”

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency had previously visited Iran in November last year and held talks with Iranian officials on nuclear issues. These visits and meetings with Iranian officials demonstrate the importance of diplomacy and further cooperation on Iran's nuclear program and international concerns in this regard.
