Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Donald Trump stated in an interview that the program, called “self-deportation,” includes financial aid and the possibility of legal return of immigrants to the country. He emphasized: “We want to reward these immigrants. We want to give them some money and plane tickets and eventually work with them. If they were good, we will bring them back. We want to bring them back as quickly as possible.” A White House spokesman declined to comment further on the matter.
During the election campaign and after coming to power, Trump had repeatedly spoken of carrying out the largest deportation operation in US history. After taking office on January 20, he signed executive orders allowing immigration agents to arrest non-criminal immigrants and asked other federal agencies to assist the agency in this regard.
Other actions taken by the Trump administration in this regard include: declaring a state of emergency on the US-Mexico border, deploying military forces to the southern border, agreements with Venezuela, Guatemala, Cuba, India, Peru, Honduras and El Salvador to transfer illegal immigrants, a plan to transfer immigrants to Guantanamo Bay, and the transfer of about 110,000 acres of federal land on the border with Mexico to the military to combat illegal immigrants.
According to statistics, the number of illegal immigrants crossing the US southern border has decreased significantly in recent months. In March, about 7,200 illegal immigrants crossed the Mexican border, while this figure has averaged 155,000 per month over the past four years.
