Eslami: The International Atomic Energy Agency must maintain its neutrality
After meeting with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in Tehran and in front of reporters, Mohammad Eslami, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said: "Our constant expectation has been and is that the International Atomic Energy Agency maintains its neutrality and that its reports are professional and technical."
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Mohammad Eslami, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said today, Thursday (April 17), after meeting with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, in Tehran and in front of reporters, "Our constant expectation has been and is that the International Atomic Energy Agency maintains its neutrality, that its reports are professional and technical, and that the use of terms that can be abused by the ill-wishers of the Islamic Republic and destructive media currents should be avoided."

He added: We agreed with Mr. Grossi on this matter, and he also confirmed our view.

Grossi arrived in Tehran yesterday evening at the head of a delegation, at his own request and with Iran’s acceptance, and immediately after arriving, he went to the Foreign Ministry and met and talked with Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister. Today, he met with Mohammad Eslami at the Atomic Energy Organization and visited the exhibition of achievements of the Iranian nuclear industry.

Eslami also said about the consultations held today with Grossi: Regarding the upcoming issues and the remaining issues, we have based the joint statement of March 2023 on it.

He spoke of the common will to pursue the remaining issues within the framework of this statement and announced that his deputies and Grossi will meet again in Tehran in the coming days to pursue these issues.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi told reporters about his meeting with Grossi, saying: “We had a good opportunity to share our views in our talks with Mr. Grossi. The IAEA can play an important role in the coming months in the peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue.”

He added: “Given the challenges in the negotiations, we need a ‘Director General for Peace’ so that the IAEA can continue its duties based on technical principles and avoid getting involved in political issues.”

Araghchi also pointed to the impact of Grossi’s visit on the Iran-US nuclear talks, saying: “Given the new process of negotiations between Iran and the US, it was important that Mr. Grossi be informed of the details of the negotiations.”

Araghchi also stressed that Oman will host the next round of talks and that the country will choose the venue for the talks. He added:
“We are waiting for the announcement of the venue of the negotiations by our Omani colleagues and we hope that new progress will be achieved in this round of negotiations.”

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, also stressed in his remarks the need for technical and impartial monitoring of Iran’s nuclear activities.

Grossi said: “In the current circumstances, the Agency must focus on technical monitoring and avoid any political pressure. We must now achieve an updated version of the Iran nuclear deal that is consistent with new realities.”

He also noted: “Today, we need an agreement that covers both technical and political aspects, and the Agency must continue its technical tasks in this regard.”

Grossi’s meeting with Iranian officials demonstrates Tehran’s determination to maintain technical cooperation with the Agency and prevent it from becoming a political tool. Iran hopes that by maintaining the Agency's neutrality and focusing on technical aspects, the nuclear negotiations process will continue on the right track and ultimately reach a comprehensive and lasting agreement.
