Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Palestinian sources informed the German news agency that the arrest was carried out by security forces affiliated with the Syrian rebel government. Following this incident, Palestinian and Arab leaders are making diplomatic efforts for the immediate release of these two senior resistance members.
The Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, issued a statement confirming the news of the arrest and calling on the Syrian rebel government to release them unconditionally.
The Islamic Jihad Movement, which is considered one of the main Palestinian resistance groups and has several headquarters in Damascus, has been repeatedly targeted by the Zionist regime. The latest attack dates back to March 13, when the house of Ziad Nakhaleh, the movement’s secretary general, was hit by Israeli missiles in Damascus.
This is the first time that news of the arrest of a senior member of the Palestinian resistance in Syria has been published. Currently, more than 13 Palestinian groups are present in Syria, some of which, including the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, have left the country. A number of Palestinian groups still have military units and bases in Damascus and its suburbs. This arrest is considered an unexpected and condemnable move, given the history of these groups’ support for the Palestinian resistance.
