Afghanistan, Kazakhstan Sign 20 MoUs Worth $140 Million
On the sidelines of the Kazakh-Afghan Business Forum and two-day joint exhibition in Kabul, 20 MoUs worth $140 million were signed between private companies in Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. Three of these MoUs were signed between the chambers of commerce of the two countries and 17 others in the trade sector.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Nooruddin Azizi, Acting Minister of Industry and Trade, expressed his satisfaction with the holding of this meeting with the presence of businessmen and investors from the two countries, calling it full of achievements. He said that these MoUs are mainly in the field of logistics and transportation and are considered beneficial for both countries.
 
Azizi emphasized that in case of problems in the field of transfers, joint meetings will be held to resolve them, and the main goal is to continue the unhindered operation of vehicles in the territory of the two countries.
 
Azizi added that 20 cooperation agreements worth over $140 million were signed at the meeting, three of which were between the chambers of commerce and industries of the two countries, and 17 other agreements in the trade sector.
 
The acting Minister of Industry and Trade called on the Kazakh government to provide facilities for the export of flour, oil, and chemical fertilizers to Afghanistan. He also pointed to the capacity of Kazakh companies for production and packaging, saying: "Kazakhstan can gain an important position in the Afghan market by making its products competitive."
 
He also referred to the import of Toyota brand cars worth $10 to 11 billion in the past, and said that Kazakhstan, due to its geographical proximity, could be a cheaper and more suitable option to meet Afghanistan's needs in this regard.
 
Azizi added that Afghanistan's exports of minerals, cotton, dried and fresh fruits, and carpets to Kazakhstan have also increased, and the country has been a good market for Afghan products. He expressed hope that trade balance between the two countries will be established in the near future.
 
In conclusion, he called on all parties signing the memorandums of understanding to be committed to implementing the memorandums and also thanked Kazakhstan for investing $500 million in the Turgandi-Herat railway project.
