Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Pakistan's Defense Minister confirmed on Thursday in an interview with Sky News that his country has been supporting terrorist groups and militants active in the countries of the region for three decades.
He made these remarks in response to a question from Sky News host Yalda Hakim. Yalda Hakim asked Khawaja Asif: "Do you agree that Pakistan has a long history of supporting, supporting, training, and financing terrorist groups?" “Well, we did these dirty jobs for the United States for three decades; also for the West, including Britain,” the Pakistani defense minister replied.
“It was a mistake and we are now suffering the consequences,” Khawaja Asif added.
Various Pakistani governments have been accused of supporting terrorist and extremist groups over the past three decades. Of course, most Pakistani officials have denied the allegations, and Khawaja Asif is now the first official in the Shehbaz Sharif government to admit that the country has played a role in “supporting, equipping, supporting and training” terrorist groups.
These comments come as the Indian government has accused Pakistan of involvement in the recent attack and has suspended diplomatic relations with Islamabad in response.
New Delhi has also stressed that it will identify and prosecute the perpetrators of the attack.
However, Pakistani officials have denied any role in the attack on tourists and have accused India of supporting militant groups in Kashmir against Pakistan.
The incident has once again brought tense relations between India and Pakistan, which have always had sharp political and military differences over the Kashmir issue, to a critical stage.
In another part of his interview with Sky News, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif warned that “the world should be worried because a conflict between two nuclear powers is always worrying.”
Emphasizing the need to resolve the tension through dialogue, Khawaja Asif warned that if the situation gets out of control, it could have tragic consequences.
Asked whether the Pakistani military was prepared to respond, he said: “We will adjust our response according to India’s action. If there is a full-scale attack, there will definitely be a full-scale war.”
India has consistently accused Pakistan of supporting terrorist organizations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, which has been blamed for several deadly attacks in Kashmir.
