Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to Reuters, the interim Syrian government led by Abu Muhammad Jolani has responded in writing to America's requests for normalizing relations between the country and Syria.
Jolani emphasized in his written message that "Syria will never be a threat to any party, including Israel."
According to Reuters, Jolani has agreed to most of the US conditions in this letter in order to reduce the country's sanctions against Syria and is trying to reach mutual understandings on the issues of dispute between the parties.
Damascus, under the rule of elements of the new government, has also formed a committee to monitor the activities of Palestinian groups in Syria and is seeking to hold further talks on this matter.
The presence of foreign fighters, who have now become the main part of the army under Golani's command, is another issue on which Damascus and Washington exchanged messages. According to Reuters, this issue requires a broader consultation meeting, but (in agreement with the US demands) the distribution of military ranks among these foreign elements has been suspended for the time being.
Under Bashar al-Assad, the country's then president, Syria was subject to the "Caesar Act" due to what the US considered to be human rights violations, and severe sanctions were imposed on Damascus and the regime ruling Syria by Washington, which further exacerbated the hardship and difficulties faced by the people of this war-torn country.
With the fall of the Syrian government at the hands of forces under Jolani, who was once on Washington's blacklist and even had a $10 million bounty on his head, the US conditions for reducing sanctions, but not completely lifting them, included the expulsion of Palestinian resistance groups, a commitment to the security of the occupying regime in Jerusalem, and the expulsion of foreign terrorist elements from Syria, and at least removing them from military positions in the new government and governance.
According to Reuters, Jolani has promised that no armed group outside the government will operate in Syria, and the message from the Syrian interim government to Washington came a few days before the arrest of two officials of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement.
