WFP air services in Afghanistan may be suspended due to severe funding shortage
The World Food Program (WFP) has warned that its air services in Afghanistan may be suspended due to severe funding shortages. In a message posted on the X social network today (Sunday, April 27), the organization announced that air services are of great importance for delivering aid to remote and difficult-to-reach areas of Afghanistan, but currently require an urgent funding of $10.5 million to continue these services in 2025.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The World Food Program, one of the largest humanitarian organizations in Afghanistan, has announced the possibility of suspending its air services due to funding shortages. These air services have played a vital role in transporting humanitarian aid, especially in areas where roads are blocked due to the security situation and natural conditions.

In a message posted on X, the WFP explained that in the past, when roads were blocked, air services were the only way to deliver aid to remote areas of Afghanistan. This aid included food, medicine, and other essential items that are essential for the survival of millions of people in need in Afghanistan.

However, the international organization has now announced that it urgently needs $10.5 million in funding to continue its relief flights in 2025. This figure indicates a severe shortage of funds to continue air operations in Afghanistan, without which these services are likely to cease.

The WFP also noted that humanitarian needs in Afghanistan continue to increase and that millions of people across the country are dependent on humanitarian assistance. According to the organization, if air services are stopped, it will become very difficult, if not impossible, to deliver vital aid to areas that are not accessible by road.

According to the United Nations, Afghanistan is one of the countries with the highest level of humanitarian needs in the world. Wars, economic crisis, widespread poverty, and climate change have left millions of people in Afghanistan dependent on humanitarian aid to meet their food, health, and other basic needs. In such circumstances, air services provided by the World Food Program are recognized as a key tool in addressing these crises.

Experts say that the possible suspension of the World Food Program’s air services in Afghanistan could greatly exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the country. At a time when millions of people in the country are struggling with severe economic and humanitarian crises, the air services are the only way for aid to reach areas that are impossible to reach by road. The suspension of these services could limit access to essential aid and put millions of people at serious risk.

Especially in the current context where the security and economic situation in the country remains fragile, any reduction in the volume of humanitarian assistance could have catastrophic consequences. Furthermore, the need for $10.5 million to continue these services reflects a serious financial crisis in humanitarian organizations that are struggling to cover the costs of their operations due to a lack of financial resources.

Ultimately, this situation requires urgent attention from the international community and increased international cooperation to prevent the cessation of these services and ensure the provision of essential assistance to the Afghan people.
