In an interview with the German ARD network, he said: "Kiev understands very well that in order to achieve a permanent ceasefire, it may be necessary to give up some areas; but they should not reach the point where they accept Trump's recent offer."

He continued: "Ukraine alone could have achieved what Trump's proposal included a year ago; but now it looks like surrender and I can't see any added value to this agreement."
