Bandar Abbas Accident Death Toll Increases to 70; Possibility of Negligence in Storing Hazardous Materials Used in Agriculture
The Director General of the Crisis of Hormozgan Province of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced that the number of casualties in the explosion in Shahid Rajaee Port has increased to 70. It is said that initial investigations show that the contents of the containers that caused the accident, which included hazardous materials mainly for sanitary and agricultural use and were flammable, were imported into Iran by the private sector.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: At the same time, the Governor of Hormozgan, emphasizing transparency in announcing the facts, announced a serious investigation into various aspects of the accident and legal action against the possible perpetrators. The Iranian Minister of Interior also spoke of "negligence" in the accident and announced the summoning of some factors and officials.

Hormozgan Governor: We have no excuse in stating the facts of the accident
Referring to the preliminary results indicating the possibility of negligence in the accident, the Governor of Hormozgan Province of Iran said: "We are seriously investigating all aspects of this incident in various fields. We have no excuse; Anyone who has committed a fault in this regard will be subject to legal action.”

Scattered fire caused by wind
The Iranian Crisis Management Spokesperson also announced that the incident management process has changed from the national level to the provincial level. There have also been reports of scattered fires in Shahid Rajaee Port due to wind.

On the other hand, the Iranian Minister of Interior announced the existence of “fault” in the Shahid Rajaee Port explosion incident and announced that some negligent factors and officials have been summoned. It was said that initial investigations show that the contents of the containers that caused the incident, including hazardous and flammable materials for health and agricultural use, were imported into the country by the private sector and required special storage conditions.

According to Noor News, one of the hypotheses put forward is the attempt by importing companies to reduce customs costs by not correctly declaring the degree of danger of the materials. Failure to mention the dangerousness of the shipments could have resulted in not charging special storage costs. Although this claim is under investigation, if confirmed, it could be one of the main factors in the incident.

Denial of the claim that the cargo was military
While some claims were made that the exploded cargo was military, the Iranian Ministry of Defense spokesman categorically denied this and emphasized that military institutions use their own ports and that there were no military or fuel cargoes in the area of the Shahid Rajaee Port that was affected by the incident.

First Vice President of Iran: We will deal with the perpetrators legally
Emphasizing the need to provide accurate information to the public as soon as possible, Mohammad Reza Aref, the First Vice President of Iran, said: “The position of all officials is not to prejudge. In case of errors and negligence, we will definitely deal with the perpetrators of this incident legally. If there are obstacles in the regulations and rules, they must definitely be corrected so that we do not witness such incidents.”
