Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The official ARG page on the X social network announced in a press release that Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister, met and discussed with Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, and his accompanying delegation on Tuesday, 26 Saur 1404, and discussed the issue.
During the meeting, Mr. Hanafi referred to the forced deportation of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries, especially Pakistan, and considered this action contrary to the principles of good neighborliness and international laws, and called for the United Nations to pay serious attention to this issue.
Tom Fletcher also spoke in this meeting about ensuring security and the measures taken in Afghanistan praised and assured the UN of its support for the Afghan people.
In recent months, the process of forced deportations of Afghan refugees from Pakistan has intensified. According to published reports, more than 1.4 million undocumented Afghan refugees are at risk of forced return. The UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) stated on October 27, 2023 that many of these individuals would face serious risks of human rights violations, including arbitrary detention and torture, if returned to Afghanistan, especially for women, girls, civil society activists, and religious and ethnic minorities.
International organizations, including the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), have also expressed their concerns about this process and called for an immediate halt to forced deportations. These organizations have emphasized that returns should be voluntary, safe, and carried out with human dignity.
According to experts, the process of forced expulsion of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries, especially Pakistan, is not only a clear violation of human rights, but could also exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Given the fragile economic and security situation of the country, the forced return of hundreds of thousands of refugees could put additional pressure on limited resources and create further instability. It is essential that the United Nations and the international community, by putting pressure on host countries, prevent this process from continuing and provide sustainable and humane solutions to the situation of Afghan refugees.
