Turkish opposition leader attacked in Istanbul
Ozgur Ozel, the leader of Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party, was physically attacked after leaving an event in Istanbul today (Sunday).
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Television footage showed a white-haired man approaching Ozel as he left the Ataturk Cultural Center in central Istanbul and hitting him in the face with his hand.

The Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office issued a statement saying that the suspect had been detained in this connection.

Reports indicate that Ozel had previously attended a memorial service for pro-Kurdish politician Sari Soraya Onder, who died on Saturday. Fortunately, the Turkish opposition leader was not injured in the attack.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of politicians in Türkiye. In 2019, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the former leader of the Republican People's Party, was attacked while attending a soldier's funeral in Ankara.
