Elites, Media, and Public Awareness; Three Pillars of Synergy and National Unity in Afghanistan
At the “Path to Excellence Dialogue” meeting in Qom, two experts on legal and social issues emphasized the key role of elites, media, and raising public awareness in creating a platform for mutual acceptance, synergy, and national unity in the country. Referring to the migration of elites and structural and economic challenges, they called for intelligent use of domestic and global capacities to overcome crises.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Qom: The Path to Excellence Dialogue meeting on the topic of “The Role of Elites in Creating a Platform for Mutual Acceptance and National Synergy in Afghanistan” was held in the holy city of Qom, with the support of the Tebyan Center for Social and Cultural Activities.

Sayed Hamza Mousavi, an expert on legal issues, said in a speech at the meeting, referring to the need for mutual acceptance and synergy in Afghan society: Today, more than ever, our society needs components that can create a peaceful life and national understanding among different segments of the people.

He emphasized that cooperation between different groups, from the perspective of Islamic and international sources, is a prerequisite for synergy and added: We must first clarify the position of the elites, know who the elites are, and then take advantage of this great capacity to strengthen national cohesion.

Mousavi considered the presence of elites in the media and cyberspace to be an important factor in establishing their position in society and said: Radio, television, social networks, and audio-visual media are platforms in which elites can play an effective role. This role can be cultural, social, economic, and political.

Expressing regret over the widespread migration of the country’s intellectual elite, he stated: “Although many of the elites are outside Afghanistan today, they can still play a role through networking, media activity, and cyberspace. They have a responsibility to take steps to realize national empathy, consensus, and acceptance by utilizing new capacities.”

The legal expert continued: “We have always faced challenges in some areas that have dealt a heavy blow to the body of Afghanistan, but these crises can be managed and cured.”

He suggested solutions to overcome these crises and said: We must move towards creating endogenous networks, inter-Afghan dialogue, and bridges between different ethnic groups. The participation of women, civil activists, scholars, and students can play a role in this process.

Mousavi also called on governments and international institutions to support the elites, emphasizing that educational, cultural, and multilingual projects are among the programs that can help create synergy and national unity.

He said: The elites must enter the field with rationality, reasoning, and peaceful methods. Today, cyberspace is the widest communication platform and can be a suitable platform for conveying the voice of the elites to the government, international institutions, and the people.

Mousavi also emphasized the effective role of women in society, saying: “Women must make their voices heard by the elites, the government, and the world through peaceful means so that we can witness their greater role in the future of Afghanistan.”

The need for political and social awareness to strengthen national unity in Afghanistan
Ms. Ruqayya Hosseini, an expert on social issues, also spoke at the Path to Excellence Dialogue, emphasizing the role of public awareness in building a dynamic and united society. She said: People should become politically and socially aware and racial discrimination should be eliminated. Women and girls should have the opportunity to study and work, because it is women who educate the future children of the country and hand them over to society.

Referring to the causes of widespread disputes at the country level, she stated: In the past four decades, internal factors, including extremism, have caused civil wars.

Referring to external factors affecting the unity or division of the Afghan people, this social expert added: America played an important role in polarizing society. While during the jihad against the Soviet Union, the lack of intervention from countries such as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had led to the unity and cohesion of the people.

Ms. Hosseini, stating that some political leaders caused betrayal and backwardness in society, emphasized: “The only way to achieve unity and consensus is to improve the level of literacy, knowledge, and public awareness.”

She noted: “Unfortunately, our society faces a low level of literacy and a severe class divide, which is a serious obstacle to national unity.”

Hosseini also considered the media to be very influential in this regard, saying: “The media and the press can be a turning point for unity, but it is important that those who care about the country manage the media.”

Ms. Hosseini considered the lack of jobs and economic stagnation to be another important factor in division, and finally emphasized the role of the Afghan elite and intellectuals in creating convergence and synergy.

She stated: “In such circumstances, it is only through the efforts and deliberation of the elite and those who care about the country that the seeds of hope, unity, and reconstruction of Afghanistan can be sown.”
