Afghanistan’s prominent presence in the Asian Weightlifting Championships; Mohammad Azam Kohi leaves for China
Mohammad Azam Kohi, President of the National Weightlifting Federation and member of the Asian Weightlifting Federation Technical Committee, left for Jiangshan, China, to participate in the annual congress and refereeing of the Asian Weightlifting Championships. This presence reflects Afghanistan’s active role in international sports arenas.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports announced that Mohammad Azam Kohi, President of the National Weightlifting Federation and a first-class referee of the World Weightlifting Federation, has traveled to Jiangshan, China, at the invitation of the Asian Weightlifting Federation, to participate in the annual congress and refereeing of the Asian Weightlifting Championships.

The competitions, which will be held from May 9 to 15, 2025 in Jiangshan, Zhejiang Province, China, will host 201 athletes from 28 Asian countries. Before the start of the competitions, the annual congress of the Asian Weightlifting Federation will also be held in the same city.

Mohammad Azam Kohi, who is also a member of the Asian Weightlifting Federation’s Technical Committee, has previously refereed several international competitions, including the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, the World Championships in Riyadh, and the 2024 Asian Championships.

According to sports observers, Mohammad Azam Kohi’s participation in the Asian Weightlifting Championships reflects Afghanistan’s growing position in the international sports arena. This participation will not only help improve the technical level of domestic athletes, but will also pave the way for further interactions with international sports institutions and attract technical and financial support.
