More than a thousand families in Badakhshan affected by recent floods; agricultural lands, livestock and infrastructure destroyed
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced that recent severe floods in Badakhshan province, especially in the districts of Jurm, Baharak and Yamgan, have caused extensive damage to residents, agricultural lands, livestock and facilities.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has reported that recent floods in Badakhshan province, especially in the districts of Jurm, Baharak and Yamgan, have affected more than 1,000 families and caused extensive damage to various sectors.

According to the report, as a result of these floods, more than 1,233 hectares of agricultural land have been destroyed, 150 livestock farmers have been affected and more than 500 livestock have been lost. The floods have destroyed wheat fields, orchards and other agricultural lands, especially in Yamgan district.

The FAO added that assessment teams are assessing the immediate needs of the affected areas, especially in difficult-to-reach areas, for a possible response.

Meanwhile, the Badakhshan Security Command has also issued a report confirming the damage to the villages of Farghamo, Goharche, Hazrat Saeed, Kalfzar and Yerghask, and announced that a total of 170 residential houses, a health center, a 150-kilowatt power station, about 2,000 acres of agricultural land and several streams and rural roads have been destroyed by the floods.

The Security Command also reported that 300 livestock were killed during this natural event.

Recurrent floods in mountainous areas of Afghanistan, particularly Badakhshan, once again highlight the fragility of local infrastructure and the urgent need for prevention and emergency response systems. Continued occurrences of such events, without coordinated international and governmental action, could threaten the livelihoods of thousands of families.
