Witkoff to Axios: US seeks fourth round of talks with Iran early this week
Axios quoted Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, as saying that Washington is seeking to hold a fourth round of talks with Iran early this week (Saturday or Sunday).
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Witkoff said in an interview with Axios: "We are seeking to hold a fourth round of talks with Iran on its nuclear program later this week (Saturday or Sunday)."

These statements come after some Iranian media outlets, including "Noornews", had previously claimed that the fourth round of indirect talks between Iran and the US would be held in Muscat on Sunday, May 11.

This comes despite Whittaker having previously assessed the talks with Iran as positive.

So far, three rounds of indirect talks have been held between Tehran and Washington with the aim of reaching a nuclear agreement and lifting sanctions: the first round on 23rd of March in Muscat, the second round on 30th of March in Rome, and the third round on 6th of May in Oman.

The fourth round of talks was scheduled to be held in Rome on Saturday of this week, but Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidy announced on the social network X last Thursday that due to logistical issues, the meeting had been postponed and that a new date would be announced after the parties reached an agreement.

Axios had previously reported that the fourth round of talks could be held at the end of this week.
