72 Killed and Injured in Indian Attack on 6 Pakistani Sites/ 5 Indian Warplanes Shot Down
Following India's missile attacks on Pakistan from last night (Tuesday, May 6) to this morning (Wednesday, May 7) and Pakistan's counter-response, the Pakistan Army Spokesperson announced in a press conference that 26 civilians were killed and 46 others were injured in India's attack on 6 sites in the country. In contrast, Pakistan shot down 5 Indian warplanes and reports have been published about the destruction of an Indian military base and the capture of a number of Indian forces.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): General Ahmed Sharif said in a live news conference this morning that India has committed open aggression against Pakistan and at the same time, Pakistan's swift and strong response to this attack is underway.
He added: 6 sites in Pakistan were targeted by India, all of which are civilian sites and include residential buildings and mosques.
The Pakistani army spokesman added that at least 26 civilians were killed and 46 others were injured in the attacks.
This is while the Pakistani Air Force has shot down five of its fighter jets in response to the Indian attack.
According to IRNA, the Pakistani army spokesman, while announcing the Indian missile attack on three points in the Kashmir region controlled by the Islamabad government, said that the country's air force took action against the Indian fighter jets and did not allow them to enter Pakistani airspace.
Pakistani channels reported that several religious centers were targeted in the attack.
Pakistan's Geo News channel also said that the Indian missile attack took place in Bahawalpur, Kotli and the city of Muzaffarabad, and most of these areas are considered civilian.
Reports also indicate that a state of emergency has been declared throughout Pakistan and flights have been canceled in the country. Lahore airport has been closed and Pakistani airspace has been closed to all flights.
The Pakistani army has also launched a counter-attack on the Indian missile attack, and the country's air force is responding quickly to the attack by its eastern neighbor.
Pakistan's defense minister also confirmed that five Indian fighter jets were shot down by the country's air force in response and claimed that Pakistan had taken a number of Indian soldiers prisoner.
The Pakistani army also announced a missile operation inside India and the destruction of the country's infantry base.
In messages condemning the Indian attack, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan's response to Indian aggression is ongoing and that this right is reserved for Pakistan.
This is while the Indian army has announced: "The Indian armed forces launched this operation with the aim of hitting terrorist facilities in Pakistan. No Pakistani military facilities were targeted."
The Indian Ministry of Defense also issued a statement saying: "The Indian armed forces launched an operation and targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, from which terrorist attacks against India were planned and directed. Also, a total of nine areas were targeted and it should be noted that our actions were focused, measured and non-escalating in nature."
The ministry added: “India has shown considerable restraint in choosing targets and methods of execution, and these actions were taken in the wake of the brutal and terrorist attack in Pahalgam. We will publish a detailed report on this operation later.”

Military tensions between Pakistan and India are reminiscent of the air battle between the two countries in February 2018 that brought them to the brink of a full-scale war. This situation arose a few days after a deadly suicide attack on Indian forces in the Pulwama region. After that, Indian fighter jets attacked Pakistani territory and a day later the Pakistani army shot down two Indian fighter jets and captured one of their pilots.
