Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): This morning (Thursday, 8 May), a loud explosion was heard in the city of Lahore, Pakistan; an event that took place just a day after Indian airstrikes on targets in Pakistan and has increased concerns about the escalation of military clashes between the two nuclear-armed countries.
According to Geo News and a Reuters reporter, an explosion was heard in the eastern city of Lahore, Pakistan. The explosion occurred just a day earlier, as part of "Operation Sindoor" India had attacked targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.
No further details have been released about the source or possible casualties of the explosion, and Pakistani officials have not yet responded.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have been high since a deadly attack in India's Pahalgam region on April 22 that killed 26 people, including 25 Hindu tourists. India blamed Pakistan-based groups for the attack and launched a military operation called "Sindoor" in response.
In the wake of the incident, Pakistan closed its airspace for 48 hours and suspended domestic and international flights across the country.
