Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The ceasefire announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War began at midnight on May 8 and will continue until midnight on May 11.
According to a Kremlin statement published earlier on April 28, the ceasefire was announced for humanitarian reasons and on the occasion of the anniversary of the victory in World War II.
Referring to the decision, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian presidency, said, "The aim of this initiative, like the previously proposed ceasefire on the occasion of Easter, is to assess Kiev's readiness to move towards a lasting and long-term peace between Russia and Ukraine."
At the same time, Peskov warned that if the Kiev regime does not respond positively to the ceasefire and continues its attacks on Russian positions or facilities, Moscow will respond with an immediate counterattack.
Earlier, during the Easter ceasefire, which was in place from 6:00 p.m. on April 19 to midnight on April 21, despite the late agreement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, numerous cases of ceasefire violations by Ukrainian forces were reported.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, more than 4,900 violations were recorded by Ukraine during that ceasefire.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the behavior of the Ukrainian armed forces during the ceasefire will be a test of Kiev's true intentions towards peace.
