Beijing and Moscow; Adoption of Joint Statement to Strengthen Strategic Alliance in the New Era
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping today (Thursday) after meeting in the Kremlin, adopted a joint statement to further strengthen comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction in the new era. This action reflects the deepening of relations and alignment of views of the two major powers in the international arena.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov had previously announced that the leaders of the two countries would discuss the most sensitive issues and sign joint statements on deepening relations and global strategic stability. It is also expected that a joint statement will be adopted on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War, the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and the founding of the United Nations.
 
In addition to the joint statement, Russia and China signed a new agreement on the promotion and mutual support of investments, which was finalized after talks between the two presidents in the Kremlin.
 
Russian President Vladimir Putin described the atmosphere of the talks with his Chinese counterpart as warm, fruitful and constructive, stressing that relations between Moscow and Beijing are self-sufficient and do not depend on the current global situation. He assured that he would personally monitor, together with Xi Jinping, all important aspects of the two countries’ partnership and work to strengthen bilateral and international agendas. Putin also reported on the successful development of cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy and the use of the ruble and yuan in bilateral trade, and stressed that the United Nations should play an important role in global affairs.
 
Chinese President Xi Jinping also described the talks with Putin as detailed and fruitful, and announced the achievement of new important agreements. He stressed that China will remain a reliable partner for Russia and will intensify strategic interaction. The Chinese president stressed the two countries’ commitment to good neighborliness despite international turmoil and to strengthening cooperation in the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS and multilateralism. He expressed confidence that his visit to Moscow would help further strengthen bilateral relations.
 
Putin and Xi also stressed their countries’ independent and sovereign foreign policies and shared interest in building a just multipolar world order, and spoke of fruitful cooperation in BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and efforts to link the integration processes in the Eurasian Economic Union and the Belt and Road Initiative.
 
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that the meeting between Putin and Xi was not a message to third countries and was held in the interests of the Russian and Chinese people. Referring to Russia’s position on the war in Ukraine, he called for its legitimate interests to be taken into account in resolving the crisis and expressed hope that the administration of US President Donald Trump would understand the importance of this issue for Moscow.
