Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: In an unexpected development and after extensive diplomatic efforts, India and Pakistan have officially agreed on an immediate ceasefire. This news was first reported in the media by a claim by US President Donald Trump and then confirmed by senior officials from both countries.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar officially announced the agreement by posting a message on the X social network, writing: "Pakistan and India have agreed to an immediate ceasefire. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without waiving its sovereignty and territorial integrity."
Minutes after the message was released, US Secretary of State Mark Rubio also confirmed the agreement in a separate statement. He said that he and the US Vice President had been in close contact with senior officials from India and Pakistan over the past 48 hours and expressed his satisfaction that both governments had agreed to an immediate ceasefire.
Hours later, India’s Ministry of External Affairs also issued a statement officially confirming the ceasefire agreement. The statement said that an agreement had been reached with Pakistan to begin the ceasefire at 5:00 PM local time today (May 10, 2025).
Meanwhile, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in additional statements, announced that about 30 countries had been involved in active diplomatic efforts to stop the clashes with India, which reflected the deep concern of the international community about the state of relations between the two nuclear powers in the region.
The ceasefire agreement, which comes after days of tension and border clashes, has brought a glimmer of hope for reducing tensions and establishing stability in the region. Further details of the terms of the ceasefire and future talks between the two countries have not yet been released, but the agreement is seen as an important step towards de-escalation.
