Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the National Disaster Management Authority said in a statement that Mullah Nooruddin Torabi, the head of this agency, met with Alireza Bekdali, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Embassy in Kabul, and discussed cooperation in the disaster management sector and matters of interest.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Torabi welcomed the Iranian Ambassador and his accompanying delegation and described Iran as a friendly and good neighbor. He also referred to the assistance of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the people of Afghanistan during various disasters and sincerely appreciated Iran’s humanitarian cooperation.
Next, the Acting Director of the National Disaster Preparedness and Combating Organization, in response to the Iranian Ambassador’s question about the needs of this organization, said that Iran is a country rich in oil resources and industries, and the Iranian Crisis Management Organization can provide 10,000 liters of diesel and 5,000 liters of gasoline to each of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, which is a total of 340,000 liters of diesel and 170,000 liters of gasoline.
He added that due to climate change, Afghanistan is frequently faced with floods that threaten agricultural lands, gardens, houses and public facilities. For this reason, this organization has a plan to prevent the occurrence of dangers by constructing retaining walls and implementing preventive projects, and these activities are in dire need of fuel.
Iran was also asked to cooperate in improving the capacity of the department's employees. Torabi added that the department's other needs will also be shared with the Iranian side and he also called for Iran's cooperation in providing food for disaster victims.
On the other hand, Alireza Bekdali, the acting head of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressed his satisfaction with the holding of this meeting and said that the two countries have close humanitarian, neighborly and Islamic relations and these commonalities also entail responsibilities, therefore Iran is committed to cooperating with Afghanistan.
He added that relations between the two countries are strengthening day by day and the construction of a 117-kilometer road between Iran and Farah Province is an example of this cooperation.
The Iranian ambassador also added that the National Disaster Preparedness Organization is one of the institutions that serves the people in difficult circumstances and deserves support.
He emphasized that the Iranian embassy will act as a bridge between this department and the Iranian Crisis Management Organization and will share the department's demands with the aforementioned organization and inform the Afghan side of the results.
In conclusion, both sides emphasized the continuation of stable and strong cooperation.
