Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, reacted to the recent statements of US President Donald Trump in Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting and in front of reporters on Wednesday.
Referring to Trump's statements about Iran, he said: "Unfortunately, the US President presented a deceptive and distorted view in his speech last night." Araghchi emphasized that what Trump described as the path of progress for the countries of the region is the same path that the Iranian people have chosen with their Islamic Revolution to achieve an independent, democratic, advanced and prosperous country.
Criticizing the United States’ approach, the Iranian Foreign Minister added: “It is America that has been blocking the progress of the Iranian nation over the past four decades with sanctions, political and economic pressures and various threats. The main cause of the economic problems is America’s arrogant policies, which have always wanted a dependent and obedient military in Iran; an issue that conflicts with the dignity and independence of the Iranian people.”
Pointing out that Trump had once again endorsed the policy of “maximum pressure” against Iran in the same speech, Araghchi stated: “The US President ignores all the crimes of the Zionist regime and is trying to present Iran as a regional threat by distorting the facts. This is while the Zionist regime is the main cause of the killing of more than 60,000 people in Gaza, the widespread destruction in the region, and the repeated attacks on Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. The occupation in Syria has expanded over the entire area of Gaza in recent months, and the economic siege of a nation in Gaza by this regime continues.”
He added: “Ignoring these facts and accusing Iran is a clear deception designed to make us forget the main threat, which is Israel, but the United States will not succeed in this path either.”
Araqchi continued about his recent trip to Saudi Arabia and Qatar: “We have informed the countries of the region, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and other governments, as well as our European and international friends, about the details of the indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States. We are interested in a regional understanding of these talks and possible agreements to strengthen regional security and stability and to enhance the level of mutual understanding between Iran and its neighbors; and that without the intervention of foreign actors.”
The head of Iran's diplomatic service also said in response to a question about negotiations with Europe: "While we continue indirect talks with the United States, we are fully prepared to negotiate with European parties. Unfortunately, the Europeans have found themselves in an isolationist position with some of their decisions, but we do not like such an atmosphere and we will continue on the path of dialogue."
Araghchi announced that a new round of talks between Iran and Europe at the level of deputy foreign ministers will be held in Istanbul on Friday, the 1st.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also said about speculations about Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Iran: "This visit is on the long-term agenda of relations between the two countries and we are consulting with the Russian side to finalize its timing."
