Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The 2024-2025 La Liga season is about to end, and with the teams’ positions in the table confirmed, the faces of the four teams participating in the Spanish Super Cup have also been revealed.
According to the new format of the Super Cup, which has been held for several years with the participation of the four top Spanish teams and hosted by Saudi Arabia, the teams Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao have qualified for the January 2026 competition (Sedi 1404).
Accordingly, in the semi-finals: Real Madrid will face Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona will face Athletic Bilbao. The winners of these two matches will play in the final to win the first Spanish football season trophy in 2026.
This year's tournament is being held in a situation where all four teams present have a history of winning the competition, and the confrontation between the traditional giants of La Liga and the teams with Basque roots promises to be a classic and spectacular clash on Saudi soil.
Saudi Arabia has been selected as the host of the Spanish Super Cup since 2020 and, based on a contract with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), pays 40 million euros annually to host the competition. Half of this amount is divided between the federation and the other half between the participating teams.
The deal not only brings direct revenue to Saudi Arabia, but also significant indirect revenue by attracting sports tourists, increasing hotel occupancy and boosting the tourism industry.
Hosting the Spanish Super Cup is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to diversify its economy and enhance its international profile through sports. By attracting major sporting events, the country not only earns significant direct and indirect revenue, but also moves in line with its Vision 2030 goals of becoming a global sports and entertainment hub.
