Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The fourth and final round of municipal and local council elections in the southern and Nabatieh provinces was held and concluded in a calm and orderly atmosphere on Saturday, May 24, 2025. The people of the south showed up in their villages early in the morning and, by participating in the elections, once again showed their support for the resistance and the path of the martyrs.
The victory of the joint list of Hezbollah and the Amal Movement in southern Lebanon comes at a time when some Lebanese parties and groups aligned with the US were expecting the defeat of the resistance and claiming that Hezbollah's popularity in the south was declining.
Voting began at 7 am and continued until 7 pm. The counting of votes began immediately after the polls closed. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Interior, the turnout in the South Governorate was 42.34 percent and in the Nabatieh Governorate 35.90 percent.
The most notable point of this phase of the elections was the uncontested victory of the “Development and Loyalty” lists in 70 of the 109 municipalities located south of the Litani River. In total, candidates in 109 of the 272 municipalities in the South and Nabatieh Governorates were elected without the need for a vote and by consensus.
In 29 villages where the election competition was held, 189 municipal council members and 400 local council members were elected by popular vote.
In the Hasbiya region, despite the threats of the Zionist regime, the people showed by attending the polls that they are still committed to the path of resistance and steadfastness and will not retreat before the enemy.
