Israeli parliament not dissolved
While some ultra-Orthodox parties had threatened to support the dissolution of the Israeli parliament, the majority of Orthodox representatives did not support the plan, saving Netanyahu's fragile coalition from collapse for the time being.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The plan to dissolve the Israeli parliament (Knesset) was rejected on Thursday by 61 votes against and 53 votes in favor and was not approved.

The plan was presented by the opposition with the aim of dissolving the parliament and paving the way for early elections. Despite threats from some ultra-Orthodox parties to support the plan, most representatives of this movement decided not to support it.

According to the Israeli parliamentary rules, the opposition must now wait six months before they can present a similar plan again.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition, formed in December 2022, is one of the most right-wing governments in Israeli history, and includes the two religious extremist parties, Shas and United Torah Judaism.

The issue of military service for ultra-Orthodox men, from which they have been exempted for decades, has now become a major sticking point in the coalition. With the Israeli army facing a manpower shortage following the 20-month-long offensive on Gaza, pressure has grown within the Likud party to abolish the traditional exemptions.

In contrast, parties such as Shas, which are part of the ruling coalition, have called for a law to make the exemption of Jewish students from military service permanent.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a leader of the far-right movement, warned on Wednesday that the collapse of the government in time of war would be an “existential threat” to Israel. He stressed: "History will not forgive those who lead the country to elections in the midst of war," and spoke of the need for religious participation in military service.

Netanyahu's coalition consists of the Likud party, far-right groups and Orthodox Jewish parties, and the withdrawal of any of these groups could lead to the collapse of the government.
