Israel’s attack on Iran and its dangerous consequences for the United States and the region
Douglas McGregor, a retired colonel and American military analyst, has published an important article examining the consequences of Israel’s recent attack on Iran, which could mark a new chapter in tensions and conflicts in the Middle East. McGregor, who has worked in the military and defense policy of the United States for years, warns that this crisis has reached dangerous limits and is increasingly involving the United States in conflicts whose consequences could go beyond the region.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): McGregor writes in his article: At the same time as sensitive negotiations between Washington and Tehran, Israel carried out a preemptive attack against Iran, which was met with a swift and severe response from Tehran. Just 18 hours after this attack, Iran fired hundreds of ballistic missiles, including hypersonic missiles, towards Tel Aviv and various parts of Israel. The attacks showed that Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system was ineffective and that Israel had failed to intercept the attacks.

Strategic and economic implications
McGregor points to the dangerous implications of these developments for global energy security. He warns that if Israel attacks vital Iranian centers such as Kharg Island or Bandar Abbas, Iran could close the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s main oil transit route. Such a move could reduce global oil supply by 20 percent and cause a sharp increase in oil prices, unprecedented inflation, disruption of supply chains and a widespread economic crisis.

Heavy US costs in the Middle East
The retired American colonel emphasizes that the United States has spent more than $12 trillion in the Middle East since 2003. This cost includes the lives of more than 7,000 soldiers killed and tens of thousands wounded, and today the United States faces a heavy debt of $37 trillion. Referring to Donald Trump's "America First" promises, McGregor emphasizes the need to end US military interventions abroad.

Proposed solutions to overcome the crisis
At the end of his article, McGregor suggests several basic solutions for Washington:
1. Holding an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to declare an immediate ceasefire and declare America's unwillingness to destroy any regional country.
2. Putting pressure on Israel to stop the killing of Palestinians and withdraw its forces from Gaza and the West Bank.
3. Suspending US military aid to Israel until these conditions are met.
4. Deploying neutral international forces in Gaza and the West Bank to maintain peace.
5. Holding a regional peace conference with the participation of major world powers, including the US, Russia, China, India, and Brazil.

This political-military analysis is a serious warning about the great danger of America being entangled in wars of attrition in the Middle East that could endanger the lives of American soldiers and destroy the country's economy. McGregor, emphasizing the need to prioritize America's national interests, declares: "Now is the time to end 22 years of war and failed policies. Not a single drop of American blood should be shed for the interests of others." These views are being expressed at a time when tensions in the Middle East have reached their peak and the possibility of wider conflicts, even with consequences beyond the region, is very serious.
