Spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

Israel cannot rewrite the international legal order
Ismail Baghaei, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, described the recent Israeli attack on Iran as a clear violation of international law and an act of aggression in an analytical note, and called for a serious response from the international community.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: Referring to the Israeli attack on targets in Iran on Friday morning, 13th of June, he considered this action to be without any legal justification and emphasized: "This attack on a large scale and with a combination of air, missile and drone attacks targeted civilian targets, residential areas, official officials and even nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency. An action that is considered a war crime and a clear violation of the UN Charter from the perspective of international law."

According to Baghaei, by repeating such attacks and ignoring established international rules, the Zionist regime is not only undermining the fundamental principles of the UN Charter but is also trying to impose “new rules” on the international system. He emphasized: “We are facing a worrying situation where the silence of international institutions and the support of some powers help legitimize the illegal actions of an aggressor regime.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman recalled that Iran’s nuclear program is entirely peaceful and under strict supervision by the IAEA, and targeting these facilities is a clear violation of international law, including the provisions of the Geneva Conventions and resolutions adopted by the IAEA. According to him, an attack on nuclear infrastructure is not only a threat to Iran but also a threat to regional and international peace and security.

Continuing his note, referring to the inherent right of self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, Baqaei stated: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has responded to military aggression within the framework of international law. This response was calculated, limited, and proportionate to the existing threat, and targeted only military objectives. Iran’s priority has always been to protect civilian lives and avoid collateral damage.”

In another part of the note, he described the Security Council’s inaction in response to this attack as “disappointing and alarming,” and said: “In 1981, after Israel attacked Iraq’s Osirak reactor, the Security Council quickly issued a condemning resolution. Today, however, despite the clarity of the law and the serious dangers posed by such actions, the Council is paralyzed and under the influence of political pressure from some permanent members.”

In conclusion, Baqaei emphasized that the legitimacy and sovereignty of countries are non-negotiable issues, and attacks on peaceful installations and military actions against an independent country must be met with clear condemnation and an effective response from the international community. He warned: "The Israeli regime must not be allowed to rewrite international law by recklessly and repeatedly committing illegal acts. The path to peace begins with responsibility, and without it, the foundations of the global order will collapse."
