Death Sentence for the Perpetrators of the Martyrdom of Ayatollah Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr and His Sister in Iraq
The Iraqi Supreme Criminal Court has issued a death sentence for two defendants, Saadoun Sabri and Haitham Abdul Aziz. The two were convicted of committing the crime of murdering the religious authority, Ayatollah Shahid Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr, and his sister Shahida Bint al-Huda in 1980.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Iraqi Judiciary announced that the two convicts, who collaborated with the "Saddam Hussein regime and held positions in its repressive apparatuses," have confessed to their participation in the murder crime in the Jisr Diyala region.
 
It was stated that this sentence was issued based on Articles 12 and 15 of the Iraqi Supreme Criminal Court Law (Law No. 10 of 2005) and in reference to Article 406 (1/a) of the Penal Code.
 
It is said that the issuance of this verdict after decades is a turning point in the case of one of the most important crimes of the former Iraqi regime.
