Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the Afghan embassy in Azerbaijan has confirmed in a press release that the distribution of passports to citizens of the country in Baku, the capital of the country, has resumed after a four-year hiatus.
This process, like many consular services in a number of other countries, was suspended following the fall of the previous regime and the coming to power of the Islamic Emirate in Asad 1400. Since then, thousands of Afghan refugees in various countries, including Azerbaijan, have faced problems such as lack of valid identity documents, difficulty in accessing residential, educational and health services.
The embassy emphasized in its statement that the distribution of passports has now begun based on a new procedure and in compliance with administrative order, and refugees can register their applications by visiting the consular section.
Similar measures have already been initiated in the country’s diplomatic missions in Turkey, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates, raising hopes for the refugees.
Some citizens in Baku have also expressed satisfaction in contact with the media, saying that the resumption of this process will solve some of their identity problems.
The resumption of consular services, especially the distribution of passports, for Afghan refugees in host countries is of great importance, as the lack of valid identity documents has exposed this vulnerable group to the risk of deportation, deprivation of educational and health services, and administrative abuse. Expanding this process to other embassies and establishing a transparent mechanism in the implementation process can meet some of the urgent needs of refugees and also strengthen positive interaction with host countries.
