The head of the Asian region of the International Federation of Red Crescent Societies met with the governor of Herat to solve the problems of refugees
Officials in the local administration of Herat say that the head of the Asian region of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, during a visit to Herat province, met with the governor of the province and discussed the problems of refugees and creating employment opportunities for them.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-Herat: Mufti Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, spokesman for the governor of Herat, says that in this meeting, Alexander Mathew, head of the Asian region of the International Federation of Red Crescent Societies, assured of continued cooperation to address the problems of refugees and provide employment opportunities for them.

He stated that the main purpose of his visit to Herat was to study the problems of refugees and assess their needs.

Mufti Saeedi added that Sheikh Islam Jar, the governor of Herat, while appreciating the humanitarian services of the Red Cross during the recent earthquake in Herat, stated that the main reason for the migration of Afghans in the past few years was climate change, which has caused disruption in the livelihoods of the people.

The governor of Herat emphasized that the local administration is working to solve the problems of refugees; therefore, international organizations, in coordination with the provincial government, need to take effective and serious steps to reduce the effects of climate change and create job opportunities for refugees.

This is while Herat province has witnessed a huge wave of refugees returning from Iran in the past few days, and this population is in serious need of shelter and suitable jobs.
