Pakistan orders a halt to action against Afghans with POR cards
Pakistan's Ministry of States and Border Areas has ordered authorities across the country to immediately stop any action against Afghan refugees with POR cards as the government considers a possible extension of their return deadline.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The state ministry has specifically ordered senior officials and police in Islamabad, Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan to ensure that POR card holders are not harassed or detained, Pakistan's Samai TV reported.

The letter noted that the timetable for the voluntary return of cardholders is currently being reviewed and authorities have been told not to take any enforcement action or expulsion against them until a decision is made. Currently, more than 1.3 million Afghan refugees in Pakistan have POR cards, which are jointly issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Pakistani government, granting them temporary legal residence.

Earlier, the Pakistani government had approved a one-year extension of residence permits for POR card holders, which expired on June 30.

Sama TV reported that a plan to grant Afghan refugees another three to six months of residence in Pakistan is under consideration.
