Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-International Service: According to France 24, a day after Elon Musk asked his followers on X whether a new political party should be created in the United States, he said on Saturday that "the Party of America has been formed."
As the richest person in the world and the largest political donor to US President Donald Trump in the 2024 election, Musk has found a sharp disagreement with the US president after leading the Republican effort to cut spending and government jobs as head of the so-called Government Productivity Agency.
The head of SpaceX and Tesla wrote on the social media X: "When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and corruption, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy."
Musk pointed to a poll released Friday on X, Independence Day, that asked respondents if they “wanted independence from the two-party system (some say one-party) that has dominated American politics for nearly two centuries.”
Musk spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Trump’s reelection and headed the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) during the Trump administration, which aimed to reduce government spending, but Musk and Trump have been at odds over a bill since then.
The Trump-Musk feud escalated dramatically late last month when Trump pressured Congressional Republicans to pass his massive domestic agenda in the form of a “big, beautiful” bill.
The yes-or-no poll received more than 1.2 million responses.
Musk tweeted on Saturday: “By a 2-to-1 margin, if you want a new political party, this one exists.”
Musk has previously threatened to form a new political party and spend money to oust lawmakers who support the bill.
The billionaire businessman first floated the idea in early June, shortly after resigning as head of the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He floated it again on Tuesday, shortly before the Senate was set to vote on the massive spending bill.
Trump responded by threatening to cut off billions of dollars in federal subsidies that Musk’s companies receive.
Trump told reporters at the White House that he would consider expelling the South African-born Musk, who has been a U.S. citizen since 2002.
“We may have to send the Dodge administration to Elon,” Trump said. “You know what it is? Dodge is a monster that may have to come back and eat Elon.”
