Mullah Baradar visits Baku port / Azerbaijan announces readiness to export Afghan goods to Turkey and Europe
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Economic Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate, led a delegation to visit the international seaport of Baku in Azerbaijan. During the visit, the transit capacities of the strategic port were assessed and the two sides agreed to form joint technical committees to facilitate Afghanistan's exports.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: According to the presidential palace, the deputy economic minister visited the technical facilities, transportation capacities and commercial activities of Baku port.
 
The international seaport of Baku is one of the key points on the Lapis Lazuli Corridor; The corridor connects Afghanistan to Europe via Turkmenistan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
 
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, in a meeting with Baku port officials and Azerbaijani railway officials, called for extensive facilities for exporting Afghan products through this route.
 
He stressed that expanding trade cooperation and facilitating transit routes will benefit the economic development of the region and strengthen bilateral relations.
 
During the meeting, Azerbaijani officials, while welcoming cooperation with Afghanistan, announced that they are ready to export Afghan industrial goods, agricultural products and minerals to Turkey and Europe through the port of Baku. They also expressed their readiness to transport Afghan commercial goods to the Iranian-Russian railway route.
 
In order to assess capacities and transit routes, the parties agreed to establish joint technical committees. These committees will be tasked with examining practical and technical ways to establish joint trade and transit through the port of Baku and provide the ground for its implementation.
 
According to Azerbaijani officials, the international seaport of Baku currently has the capacity to transport 15 million tons of goods annually. This capacity is expected to increase to 25 million tons per year in the future.
 
The visit is part of the economic policies of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to find alternative transit routes and expand exports to global markets. The Islamic Emirate officials are trying to use Afghanistan's geographical location to make the country an important bridge in regional and international trade.
