Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): In his speech, which he delivered on behalf of the Islamic President of Iran, Araghchi referred to the "unjustified military aggression of the Israeli regime" and said: "The Iranian people are mourning their lost loved ones." He called on those present to understand the "depth and ugliness of this lawlessness" and the dangerous consequences of the "impunity of the Israeli regime."
Referring to the recent attacks by the Israeli and US regimes, just two days before the sixth round of Iran-US nuclear talks, he said that the Israeli regime launched "barbaric terrorist and military attacks" against Iran. According to Araqchi, the attacks targeted residential areas and military bases, assassinated commanders, soldiers, university professors and scientists, and "massacred" ordinary people, including children and women. He added that Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities, which are under strict supervision by the International Atomic Energy Agency, were attacked and public infrastructure, including several fuel production facilities, was blown up.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed: "The subsequent entry of the United States into this aggression, by targeting Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities, left no doubt that the US government is fully complicit in the Israeli regime's aggressive war against Iran."
The attacks undermine diplomacy and international order
Araqchi described the Israeli regime's aggression against Iran as "a clear violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4, of the United Nations Charter and an act of aggression." He said that more than 6,000 people were killed or injured in the illegal attacks, and extensive damage was caused to infrastructure, residential areas and nuclear facilities. “But worst of all, this aggression dealt a fatal blow to diplomacy, the rule of law and the non-proliferation regime (NPT),” he added. He called the US and Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities “a flagrant violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and Security Council Resolution 2231.”
“What the Israeli regime and, subsequently, the United States committed was an unprecedented violation of international peace,” the Iranian foreign minister said. He called the fact that a developing, non-nuclear state was targeted by two nuclear-armed regimes, supported by at least two other nuclear powers, who are also permanent members of the Security Council, “catastrophic and deeply worrying.” He recalled that attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities under the supervision of the IAEA are absolutely prohibited under international law.
Call for Justice and Global Accountability
Iraqchi stressed that the Iranian nation has stood firm and determined against these aggressions, and that the attackers were forced to stop their attacks “after the heroic resistance of our powerful armed forces.” He warned that “the issue of insecurity in our region will not be resolved as long as the lawlessness and rebellion of the Israeli regime are supported and encouraged by its supporters and exculpators.”
The Iranian foreign minister expressed regret over the “absolute immunity” that, he said, the United States and some European countries have granted Israel for committing crimes in the region. He called on members of the international community to stand firm against this “great injustice” and to firmly condemn Israel’s aggression.
Araghchi concluded his remarks by saying, “We are determined to document the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Israeli regime in its aggression against our country. The Israeli regime and the United States must be held accountable for their violations of international law, including human rights and humanitarian law.” He stressed that Iran will not give up on demanding justice and reparations, and called for urgent action by the international community to end “impunity” and hold “criminals” accountable. He also called on BRICS to play its role as the “recognized voice of the global south” in defending international law and multilateralism.
