Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: According to the official press release of the agency, the program was inaugurated on Saturday, August 1, during a ceremony attended by government officials and partner institutions.
At the ceremony, Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, Acting Director of the National Disaster Management Authority, emphasized the importance of public mobilization during natural disasters and said: "Creating these teams will reduce the negative effects of disasters and streamline the relief process, which is an important step towards strengthening social unity and increasing the resilience of the community."
According to officials, these volunteer teams will play a role in the areas of rapid information dissemination, raising public awareness, reducing losses, and providing first aid.
Meanwhile, Dr. Najmuddin Najm, a representative of the Aga Khan Network, while supporting the program, said: “This initiative is very important for rapid response and we hope it will become a successful model for other provinces.”
After Kabul, the program is to be expanded to other provinces and similar volunteer teams will be formed nationwide.
According to a report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Afghanistan is one of the countries most vulnerable to natural hazards such as floods, earthquakes, droughts and landslides. This year alone, dozens of natural events have claimed hundreds of lives and left thousands of families homeless.
