Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Ministry of Public Health says that the ministry’s mobile eye health teams have provided free eye care services to thousands of people during a service delivery program in Logar province.
According to the ministry’s official press release, these services were provided at Nayib Aminullah Khan Konjak Hospital and included examining more than 5 thousand patients, performing about 200 eye surgeries (cataracts), and distributing nearly 400 prescription glasses to needy patients.
These services are part of the Ministry of Public Health’s mobile programs aimed at providing easy and free access to specialized health services for people in different regions.
The Ministry of Public Health announced that similar teams have been dispatched to remote areas in the past to provide needed services to people who do not have adequate access to health centers.
According to reports published by partner institutions in the health sector, eye diseases, especially cataracts, are one of the most common vision problems in the country, and due to limited access to specialized services, many people suffer from poor vision or blindness. In recent months, non-governmental organizations such as the Noor Foundation and IHH Turkey have also implemented eye treatment projects in various regions in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health. Local sources in Logar have also reported a widespread acceptance of these free services by the people.
According to health experts, launching mobile services in specialized departments such as ophthalmology for areas that do not have access to advanced health facilities is one of the most effective ways to improve public health. Studies show that implementing such programs, in addition to reducing medical costs, prevents the progression of the disease and the increase in the rate of blindness in the community.
Experts emphasize that the continuation and expansion of these services in other provinces can play an important role in reducing the burden of preventable diseases.
