FAO and UK invest £10 million in ensuring food security in the country
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced that it will invest £10 million in partnership with the British government to ensure food security and support farmers in Afghanistan. The project will prioritize smallholder farmers, livestock keepers and landless workers, with a special focus on self-reliant women.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said in a statement today (Monday, August 4) that this new initiative has been launched to strengthen the lives of rural people in the face of climate change.

The statement said: “The project will prioritize smallholder farmers, livestock keepers and landless workers, with a special focus on self-reliant women.”

According to the organization, the project will help farming families produce wheat and dairy products in the first year, rebuild irrigation systems and access quality seeds.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has noted that it has assisted more than 30 million people in Afghanistan since 2022.

According to the organization, the number of people facing food insecurity has almost halved in the past four years.

Earlier, some UN agencies had announced the launch of a climate change project worth about $23 million.
