The process of surveying and clearing mine-contaminated areas in five provinces worth more than two million dollars begins
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The National Disaster Preparedness Administration has announced that two memorandums of understanding have been signed between this organization and the international organization "HiloTrust" to implement mine survey and clearance programs in the country.
According to the official press release of the organization, these memorandums were signed by Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, Director General of the National Disaster Preparedness Administration, and Ahmadullah Homayoun, Deputy Director of the "HiloTrust" organization, worth more than two million dollars.
Within the framework of this cooperation, the "HiloTrust" organization is scheduled to begin surveying and clearing areas contaminated with mines and explosive remnants of war in the provinces of Bamyan, Logar, Ghazni, Ghor and Helmand.
The Disaster Management Authority has emphasized that the implementation of these programs will be an important step towards ensuring the safety of local residents, especially children and civilians in vulnerable areas.
Afghanistan is one of the countries in the world most contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance left over from the wars of the last four decades. These threats claim the lives of dozens of civilians, especially children, or leave them disabled every year.
Although efforts have been made in the field of mine clearance in the past two decades, many areas in different provinces still need to be surveyed, marked and cleared.
Signing a memorandum of understanding with international organizations specializing in mine clearance can prevent further civilian casualties and provide a safer environment for living and reconstruction in these areas. Such cooperation also strengthens international confidence-building and attracts more investments in humanitarian and infrastructure fields.
