Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's deputy representative to the United Nations, once again called for an end to the Gaza war this morning (Wednesday, August 6).
Speaking at the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in West Asia, Polyansky said: "The Israeli cabinet is obstructing the negotiations, prolonging the war and condemning the remaining hostages to death."
According to the Sputnik news agency, he explained in this regard: "The [Gaza] war must stop immediately to end the suffering between Palestinians and Israelis."
The Russian diplomat continued: "Thousands of aid trucks are being prevented from entering the Gaza Strip, and humanitarian aid workers are being targeted."
According to the report, Polyansky stated that security conditions must be provided for the entry and distribution of aid inside the Gaza Strip, and added: "Israel could not have done these things without American cover."
Regarding the situation in the West Bank, he also said: "The expansion of settlements and the strengthening of Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank threaten the security and stability of the Middle East."
Sputnik quoted the Russian representative as saying: "A political solution to the Palestinian conflict is the only way out, and we support the efforts of the mediators to release the hostages and achieve a ceasefire."
