Steel factory with $7 million investment starts operations in Herat Province
A steel factory with an investment of about $7 million has started operations in Herat Province. The main goal of this project is to create job opportunities for returnees and boost domestic production.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Herat: Local officials in Herat Province announced that a steel factory with an investment of about $7 million has been put into operation in the province. The factory has a daily production capacity of 150 tons of rebar and has provided employment for 150 people.
 
Khan Gul Ishaqzai, the owner of the factory, stated that the purpose of its establishment was to support returnees and create job opportunities for them. He added that the factory can meet part of the country’s domestic needs for iron and rebar.
 
At the opening ceremony, Herat Governor Maulana Islam Jar emphasized the support for domestic production and said, “Industrialists should pay more attention to quality rather than quantity to increase the competitiveness of domestic products.”
 
Some employees of the factory also expressed their satisfaction with the provision of work opportunities within the country and called for more support for investors, emphasizing that the development of manufacturing industries can prevent brain drain to neighboring countries.
 
Maulana Mohammad Bashir Sirat, head of the Herat Provincial Department of Industry and Commerce, also spoke about efforts to support industrialists and investors, adding that creating job opportunities is one of the priorities of this department.
 
According to officials, this factory is the fourth active iron and steel factory in Herat Province and is part of the industrial development programs in the west of the country.
