Meteorological warning: Rain and flooding likely in eastern and central Afghanistan over the next two days
The Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation has warned that heavy rain and flooding are likely in areas such as Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Kapisa and Panjshir on Friday and Saturday (August 8 and 9); strong winds are also expected in several areas.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Meteorological Department, citing its office report, has announced that rainfall has been predicted in Nuristan, Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kapisa, Panjshir, Logar, Khost and Paktia provinces for Friday and Saturday. According to this warning, the rainfall will be between 10 and 30 millimeters.

In addition, high-speed winds of 50 to 75 kilometers per hour are expected in the southeastern, western and central regions of the country, which could increase the risk of flash floods.

According to Ariana News Agency, the Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall and flash floods in the same areas and nearby areas in the past; for example, in late May, flood warnings were issued in 14 provinces including Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Panjshir and Logar, indicating the recurrence of these risks.

In addition, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned in a new report that due to climate change, the intensity and frequency of flash floods in Asia are increasing. Heavy rainfall and increasing atmospheric heat create the conditions for such floods.

According to observers, meteorological warnings are of vital importance in such cases, because timely information can prevent loss of life and property. Studies show that flash floods are in many cases the result of heavy rainfall combined with improper drainage structures and weak infrastructure. According to experts, if timely notification is coordinated with the preparedness of local agencies, it will be possible to greatly reduce the destructive effects.
