Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Trump imposed a new tariff of 25% on Indian goods, bringing the total tariff to 50%—one of the highest on US trading partners.
“For us, the welfare of our farmers comes first. India will never compromise on the welfare of its farmers, dairy farmers and fishermen. And I personally know that I will have to pay a heavy price for it,” Modi said at an event in New Delhi.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs called the move “deeply regrettable” and said that all necessary steps would be taken to protect national interests.
The tariffs have been imposed as a punishment for India’s purchases of Russian oil, while China—the largest buyer of Russian oil—has been exempted from such tariffs.
The trade dispute could have far-reaching implications for Indo-US relations, particularly in the areas of energy, agriculture and regional politics.
