Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Herat: Political analysts believe that America’s twenty-year presence in Afghanistan not only did not lead to the reconstruction of the country, but also paved the way for the collapse of the republican regime by continuing corruption, increasing drug production, and ethnic division. They emphasize that the Islamic Emirate, by taking advantage of public discontent, organizational cohesion, and direct confrontation with the occupiers, has succeeded in gaining widespread public support and ending the civil war.
America’s Crimes and the Consequences of the Occupation
Mohsin Mubariz, a political analyst in Herat, considers America’s twenty-year presence in Afghanistan not only fruitless in real reconstruction, but also describes it as a factor in the dependency and fragility of the country’s economy and society.
He says: “Three decades of war had destroyed Afghanistan’s infrastructure before the US entry, but after the occupation, not only was this infrastructure not repaired, but the bombing of civilians, the spread of structural corruption and the increase in drug production plunged the country into a deeper crisis.”
Mubariz also emphasizes that Washington’s support for “dependent and corrupt elements” in the republican government destroyed its legitimacy among the people and paved the way for its rapid collapse.
Roots of the fall of the republic
Mohammad Ansari, a political expert, takes a critical look at the performance of the past two decades and says: “US policies focused on sowing the seeds of discord and ethnicism. Creating national distrust and division among ethnic groups formed a structure that was unable to survive with the withdrawal of foreign forces.”
He considers widespread corruption, dependence on foreign aid and the inability to provide security to be the three main factors for the fall of the republic.
Both analysts believe that the Islamic Emirate was able to attract widespread public support by taking advantage of public discontent and the promise of an end to the civil war. Organizational cohesion, operational capacity in the field, and direct confrontation with the occupiers led to the group's victory in August 2021.
Achievements of the past four years
Mubarez and Ansari say that after four years of the US withdrawal, Afghanistan has made progress in the areas of security and foreign policy; including a significant reduction in military violence and the end of the civil war, the grounding of ISIS Khorasan and the reduction of its activities, the implementation of major economic projects such as the TAPI pipeline, the Herat railway, and the development of the electricity network.
Ansari emphasizes that the Islamic Emirate must, in addition to maintaining security, "expose the crimes of the US and NATO to the people and the international community with documented documents" and carry out targeted reforms in social areas, especially the issue of women, to strengthen the country's international standing.
