Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, arrived in Baghdad on Monday morning, August 11, and was officially welcomed by Qassem Al-Araji, the country's National Security Advisor.
The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council then met and held talks with the Iraqi National Security Advisor.
Before leaving for Iraq, Larijani spoke to the media about the goals of the trip, saying: “The trip will take place in two countries: Iraq and Lebanon, and the first part of it will be Iraq, a friendly and neighboring country with extensive and deep trade relations with Iran.” He pointed to the cooperation between the two nations in various fields and appreciated the efforts of the Iraqi government to facilitate the Arbaeen ceremony.
The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council announced that the security agreement between Iran and Iraq, which will be signed during this trip, is a turning point in the relations between the two countries. According to him, Iran’s approach to interacting with its neighbors is based on maintaining the security of its compatriots and also paying attention to the security of neighboring countries, unlike some other countries that only think about their own interests and ignore the security of other nations.
Larijani also emphasized that during this trip he will meet with a wide range of Iraqi political groups and movements to hear different opinions on bilateral cooperation and discuss ways to strengthen this cooperation. He added that maintaining stability and security in Iraq plays a key role in the security of the region and Iran, and bilateral cooperation in this regard will continue.
The second part of Larijani's trip is dedicated to Lebanon. He described Lebanon as an important and influential country in the West Asian region that has long had deep historical and civilizational relations with Iran.
According to the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, cooperation between Iran and Lebanon has a long and extensive history, and in the current situation in the region, consultations and dialogue with Lebanese officials and influential people have gained special importance.
In response to a question about his being a message bearer on his trip to Lebanon, he said: "Yes, there are messages that will be raised during this trip. Our positions on Lebanon are clear from the start, and we believe that national unity in Lebanon must be preserved. Also, the independence of Lebanon is important to Iran, and we will continue our support in this direction." Larijani added that increasing trade relations between Iran and Lebanon is also an important topic of this trip and is on the agenda as one of the axes of cooperation between the two countries.
The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council said about his trip to Lebanon in a situation where the region is in a state of war and tension: "Lebanon has a long historical experience in facing challenges and conflicts, and recently it has experienced heavy conflicts with the Zionist regime. These similarities can be a good basis for constructive dialogue and effective cooperation to establish stability in the region."
It is worth noting that Iranian President Masoud Pezzekian issued a decree appointing Ali Larijani as the Secretary of the country's Supreme National Security Council, and this trip to Iraq and Lebanon is his first official mission in this important position.
According to experts, this trip is an important step towards strengthening Iran's security and political cooperation with two important countries in the region and can have a significant impact on the stability and security of West Asia.
