Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed the latest developments related to the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan in a phone call today with Iranian President Massoud Pazeshkian.
In this call, Pashinyan shared the results of Friday’s meeting at the White House with the Iranian President and said that the peace agreement between the two countries can create new opportunities for the region. He emphasized that regional communication channels should be activated on the basis of the principles of territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and the competence of countries and on a reciprocal basis.
The Armenian Prime Minister also thanked Iran for its impartial assessment of the recent agreements and stressed the importance of the Iranian President’s upcoming visit to Yerevan.
In the same context, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that the South Caucasus region is of geopolitical, political and economic importance to Iran, and that Iran is involved in processes affecting the region. He added that close contacts have been established with both Armenia and Azerbaijan, and that the visit of the Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister to Tehran is also being carried out in this regard.
Baghaei also announced that Iran is opposed to any border closure with Armenia and emphasized that Armenia will refrain from actions incompatible with Iran’s interests, according to Fars.
