Majority of Lebanese Oppose Hezbollah Disarmament
The results of a new poll in Lebanon show that about 60 percent of the country's people oppose Hezbollah's disarmament; a position that transcends religious and sectarian boundaries and reflects the place of the resistance in the collective conscience of the Lebanese.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to Al-Akhbar newspaper, the results of a poll conducted from July 27 to August 4 by the Consultative Center for Studies and Documentation show that the majority of Lebanese people oppose Hezbollah's disarmament without a specific defense strategy.
 
In the poll, 58 percent of participants declared their opposition to the resistance's disarmament. This opposition includes 96 percent of Shiites, 50 percent of Sunnis, 46 percent of Druze, and 32 percent of Christians.
 
72% of respondents also believe that the Lebanese army alone cannot resist the Israeli aggression. 92% of Shiites and 63% of other religions also confirmed this view.
 
In another part of the survey, 76% of people said that diplomacy alone cannot prevent Israeli aggression. This opinion was confirmed by 80% of Shiites, 53% of Sunnis, 50% of Druze and 41% of Christians.
 
Participants also expressed concern about developments in Syria. 88% of Shiites, 83% of Druze, 68% of Christians and 62% of Sunnis said that the situation in Syria could threaten Lebanon’s stability and increase the likelihood of war by militant groups.
