A joint security memorandum between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq was signed on Monday, August 10, in Baghdad. The document was signed by Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, and Qassem Al-Araji, Iraqi National Security Advisor, in the presence of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council and the Iraqi National Security Advisor signed the Iran-Iraq Joint Security Memorandum today in Baghdad with Al-Sudani present.
 
It was said that the goals of this memorandum are to strengthen security and intelligence cooperation between the two countries, confront border threats and terrorist groups, and develop regional coordination to maintain stability and security.
 
During his visit to Baghdad, Ali Larijani met and held talks with senior Iraqi officials, including President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Al-Sudani. He considered the memorandum of understanding a turning point in Iran-Iraq security relations and emphasized that regional security must be based on mutual respect and common interests.
 
The Iraqi president also announced in his meeting with Larijani that his country is moving towards strengthening a positive opening policy with all neighboring countries and wants to strengthen economic and security cooperation with Iran.
