Kunduz has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat, rice and vegetable production; products are exported to other provinces
Officials of the Kunduz Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock announced that the province has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat, rice and vegetable production over the past four years by implementing development projects and distributing improved seeds and sending surplus production to other provinces and the center of the country.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Mazar-e-Sharif: Salahuddin Wahedi, head of agricultural affairs at the Kunduz Department of Agriculture, said that the province has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat, rice and vegetable production.

He added that over the past four years, the department has significantly increased agricultural production by implementing programs such as distributing improved seeds, creating home gardens, constructing rice demonstration plots, promoting new cultivation systems, distributing solar drying machines and fruitful and non-fruitful seedlings.

After the Islamic Emirate came to power, wheat seeds were distributed to 90,000 farmers, legumes seeds to 20,000 farmers, and rice seeds to 5,000 farmers.

According to the head of agricultural affairs, Kunduz is currently not only meeting its domestic needs, but also exporting a significant portion of its production to other provinces and Kabul. He also announced the implementation of 11 development projects worth more than 7 million Afghanis in the province’s agricultural sector in the last four years.

Kunduz’s success in achieving self-sufficiency in key crops such as wheat and rice demonstrates the effectiveness of policies to distribute improved seeds and mechanize the agricultural sector. This achievement can be a good model for other provinces, especially by focusing on domestic exports and utilizing local agricultural capacities. Continuing this trend, in addition to strengthening food security, will help boost economic growth and create jobs in rural areas.
