Trump
US President Donald Trump announced his intention to issue an executive order to impose new requirements for participating in federal elections, including requiring voters to present an ID card and limiting mail-in voting.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: In a post on the Truth Social social network, Trump wrote: "Voter ID cards must be part of every in-person vote. No exceptions!" He also emphasized that mail-in voting will only be allowed for the seriously ill and military personnel stationed in remote areas.

This comes at a time when Trump has repeatedly questioned the US electoral system since his defeat in the 2020 election and made allegations of widespread fraud; claims that have so far been rejected by official institutions and experts.

Trump has also called for the elimination of electronic voting machines and their replacement with paper ballots and manual counting; A method that election officials say is time-consuming, costly and less accurate than machine-based methods.

Despite these plans, legal experts emphasize that federal elections are administered at the state level and that the president alone does not have the legal authority to make such changes. Only Congress can set the rules governing elections.

The U.S. midterm elections on November 3, 2026, will be the first national referendum on Trump’s domestic and foreign policies after returning to power. Democrats are trying to break Republican control of Congress and block Trump’s domestic agenda.
